Overview
Modal gets the wholesale vehicle price from Kelly Blue Book (KBB) during Checkout and in rare cases such as these, KBB fails to return a value. Many lenders require the vehicle wholesale value to be present in the credit application to process a used vehicle application, so Checkout data treats this value as a required field and that is why the Order is failing.
User Story
A buyer attempts to purchase a used vehicle. They encounter a "We're sorry. Something went wrong" error message.
Root Cause
The current known root cause is that KBB does not have wholesale data on certain vehicles.
Modal has reached out to KBB and this was KBB's response:
Our service isn't returning any errors, it's just not returning any used vehicle values for this new model vehicle. Kelley Blue Book reports vehicle values by analyzing actual transactions in the market. We do not believe in using arbitrary formulas to predict prices because our promise is to report dependable values, not set prices. It can be difficult to establish used values on newer vehicles if we have not seen enough transactions in the required amount of different markets to establish dependable values on these vehicles.
Once we have seen enough turnover in the marketplace to assign values, these will added to the data and will automatically populate into the service for you.
We apologize for the inconvenience. This article will be removed once a fix is released.
